My work in elephant conservation, through The Biodiversity and Elephant Conservation Trust (BECT), focuses on both raising awareness and fostering coexistence between humans and elephants. Elephants are not only keystone species vital to the ecosystems they inhabit but also symbols of the delicate balance between wildlife and human development. Over the years, my efforts have been directed toward educating communities and students about the critical role elephants play in biodiversity and why their conservation is essential for maintaining ecological harmony. Through awareness programs, lectures, and community engagement, I aim to inspire people to take active roles in protecting these magnificent animals.
Beyond education, I have been involved in initiatives that address human-elephant conflict, particularly in areas where both species are competing for space and resources. These conflicts, often leading to destruction and fatalities on both sides, pose significant challenges. By working closely with local communities, government agencies, and conservation organizations, we have developed strategies to minimize conflicts while promoting sustainable solutions. These include early warning systems, alternative farming methods, and habitat preservation efforts, all aimed at ensuring that humans and elephants can coexist peacefully in shared environments.
